Budget
It’s not very romantic, but the whole of your wedding day will ultimately depend on your budget.
Most couples nowadays pay for the majority of their wedding themselves, although there are some fortunate brides whose families stick to tradition and fork out for most of the occasion.
It is so important that you are clear of your budget when you begin to plan your day. Make sure that you research all the products and services that you are interested in and don’t be tempted to guesstimate or else you could end up with a nasty shock.
According to wedding website Confetti, the average wedding now comes in at around £15,000. But don’t be despondant if you know that there is no way you can afford this amount of money – there are many money saving ideas you can think about!
Huddersfield Wedding’s Top Ten Money Saving Tips!
Involve your family and friends
Think about what your family and friends can help you out with. Some of the major expenses can be greatly reduced by calling upon family and friends with the necessary skills. Is Auntie Jean a wonderful cake maker? Maybe cousin Joan is an expert with the sewing machine? Can your arty friend help out with invitations? To cut costs even further, suggest that they offer there services instead of a wedding present!
Get married on any day other than Saturday
Venues are always more expensive on a Saturday, so a Friday wedding is a good idea. Most people won’t have a problem in getting time off work with plenty of advance notice, so don’t worry about it falling on a work day. Sunday weddings are also becoming more popular and again will help to save money.
Get creative!
Even this uncreative bride managed to make her own invitations! Of course it’s wonderful to be able to order exactly what you want, but you can work wonders with some card, ribbon and a computer! Table decorations and favours are another area where you can save some money and get creative.
Do your own cake
Two simple iced cakes, a C shaped cake stand, a few flowers from your bouquet and there you have a wonderful cake on a budget!
Ask bridesmaids to help out with the cost of their dresses.
Offer to pay for half especially if you have chosen a dress which can be worn again. Or think about buying the material and pattern and asking your bridesmaids to get their dresses made. They are your friends and will realise the limitations on your budget, so don’t feel awkward about suggesting this.
Stick to your budget!
If you have decided not to have favours, don’t suddenly decide that they are the most important thing and that without them your day will be a disaster! If a buffet is what suits your budget, then stick to it and don’t feel the need to provide a full sit down meal. No wedding video – you have the memories and there will be someone with a camera no doubt!
